FSC® Forest Management Certification is the process through which a forest owner demonstrates that its forestry operations are socially beneficial and managed in an environmentally responsible and economically viable manner.

Socially beneficial forest management helps local populations, as well as society as a whole, to enjoy the benefits of the forest in the long run.

Environmentally responsible forest management ensures that the production of wood, non-wood products, and ecosystem services maintain the biodiversity, productivity and ecological processes of the forest.

Economically viable management means that forestry operations are structured and managed in a manner that is sufficiently profitable, without generating economic gains at the expense of forest resources, of the ecosystem, or of the affected communities.

To implement such responsible management, the company or owner must comply with the internationally agreed upon requirements of proper forest management, known as FSC® Principles and Criteria.

Certification standards for Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) take into account the experiences from a variety of public and private initiatives, developed in a manner that is consistent with the circumstances affecting the nation’s forests.

FSC® Chain of Custody is the process through which a company guarantees consumers that the wood used in the manufacturing of its products comes from an FSC® certified forest or plantation.

To achieve FSC® certification, the wood will be individually tracked throughout all operational stages as well as Company support processes (outsourced services), keeping FSC® Certified wood separated, not only physically but also by way of documentation.

FSC® chain of custody provides information about the path traveled by the products from the forest to the consumer, including all stages of processing, manufacturing, and distribution in which the next step in the supply chain results in a change in ownership.

For a product to reach the final consumer with the CERTFOR/PEFC seal, all companies involved in the product preparation must have certification, guaranteeing traceability of the raw materials obtained in a sustainable manner, as they pass from one industry participant to the next.
